Joseph Hart, Ciaran Rankin and Robin Kitching involved in historic sexual allegations case arising out of a significant police operation on the Falkland Islands
R v Butler and Crowie
Crime/Overseas Territory Law
This was a case involving historic sexual allegations arising out of a significant police operation on the Falkland Islands.
The case resulted in a conviction after trial on one of the counts against the main Defendant, but one of the Defendants was acquitted on the only count against them.
Legally the case was a complex one dealing with issues of the provision of extra-territorial evidence; reluctant witnesses in other jurisdictions; third party material and defendant costs orders. Deans Court’s Ciarán Rankin and Robin Kitching defended, whilst Deans Court’s Joseph Hart led local advocate Stuart Walker for the Prosecution.
