Sophie Cartwright QC and Joseph Hart involved in tragic case seeking Judicial Review
Following on from a lengthy inquest the Claimant sought permission for Judicial Review of the conclusion of the Learned Coroner
Counsel to the inquest Sophie Cartwright QC acted for the Learned Coroner. Joseph Hart acted for child 2-4 as he had done in the original inquest.
As the grounds of claim in this judicial review case explained, the Claimant “Mrs Ture” was the mother of 12-year-old Shukri Yahye Abdi who died on 27 June 2019 by way of drowning in the River Irwell in Bury, Manchester. Shukri could not swim. She had accompanied two girls to the river, Child 1 and Child 2. At the river, she was taken by Child 1 into deep water, was left her there while obviously in difficulties, and she drowned. A petition calling for “justice for Shukri” gained over one million signatories.
Following argument Mr Justice Fordham refused permission to the claimant for Judicial Review of the conclusions.
