Niamh Ingham successfully prosecutes a Defendant involved in the importation of a semi-automatic gun and live ammunition into the UK
Working in liaison with the National Crime Agency, Niamh Ingham successfully prosecutes a Defendant involved in the importation of a semi-automatic gun and live ammunition into the UK.
In April 2018, an innocent courier, driving a Volkswagen Van, was stopped by Border Force Agents in Dover. Secreted inside the bulkhead of the van was a Slovakian manufactured, SR9A2 semi-automatic firearm capable of discharging approximately 20 shots in three seconds. Also secreted within the van were two magazines (available for use with the firearm and already loaded with live ammunition), 50 live cartridges suitable for use with the weapon and approximately 465 live cartridges which were unsuitable for use in the firearm seized. Utilising forensic evidence, travel documentation which highlighted an earlier ‘test run’ and phone data, the Prosecution were able to identify this Defendant as the male who professionally concealed the weapons within the van in the Czech Republic. He, along with another male, have now been prosecuted for their involvement in this sophisticated importation which involved considerable organisation.
The Defendant received a sentence of 12 years and 9 months imprisonment
