Jack Barber

Jack has a strong background in court of protection law. He has particular experience of section 16 and section 21A MCA 2005 matters. Recent cases have included disputes over contact, best interest decisions as to residence and care and best interest decisions in relation to hoarding disorders. 

Jack also has experience of applications under section 29 of the Mental Health Act 1983.

Jack accepts instructions in private children and matrimonial finance matters. 

Jack has experience of: 

• Disputes over contact and living arrangements, prohibited steps and specific issue order applications;
• Securing findings, and opposing allegations, of coercive and controlling behaviour, physical, emotional and sexual abuse;
• Applications relating to relocation including international relocation to countries which are not signatories to the Hague convention.

Within his financial remedy practice Jack represents parties at all stages of proceedings, including mediations, non-court dispute resolution meetings and enforcement applications. He has experience of cases with significant assets and cases involving third parties.

Jack accepts instructions in a broad array of personal injury work. He represents both claimants and defendants at trial, disposal and interim applications. Jack also welcomes instructions to draft pleadings and advise on both liability and quantum. 

Prior to joining Chambers, Jack worked in the counter fraud teams of two national defendant insurance firms where he handled fast-track and multi-track cases for various insurers. 

Jack also gained experience in catastrophic injury, clinical negligence and group action work whilst working as the legal assistant to Gerard McDermott KC.
