- All Barristers
- Prof. Mark James
Mark is Professor of Sports Law at Manchester Law School and one of the UK’s leading sports lawyers.
Over the course of his career, Mark has written extensively on the interaction between sport and the law. His early work focused on the use of the criminal law and negligence to regulate the on-field conduct of athletes, and the legality of using Football Banning Orders to punish football spectators. More recently, his focus has been on two distinct areas of research: the regulation of ticket touting, and the legal and regulatory framework that governs the Olympic Movement and the Olympic Games.
He has focused in particular on the regulation of ambush marketing and whether the IOC’s restrictions on athlete activism are compatible with the IOC’s human rights responsibilities.
