Profile

Doug is a Pupil Barrister at Deans Court Chambers. He is supervised by Rosalind Emsley-Smith who specialises in criminal and regulatory work. As with all pupils at Deans Court, Doug spends time with each of Deans Court’s main practice teams: Crime & Regulatory, Civil and Family. In his civil seat Doug was supervised by Jonathan Lally and in his family seat Doug was supervised by Peter Rothery. Doug accepts instructions in all of the aforementioned practice areas.

Prior to commencing pupillage, Doug was a solicitor practicing in crime and regulatory work. Doug would advise and represent clients at all stages of their proceedings, including undertaking the advocacy in Magistrates’ Court trials. Doug also has experience of conducting parole hearings and quasi-crime hearings such as Violent Offender Orders and Domestic Violence Protection Orders.

Last year, Doug was the judicial assistant to the Senior President of Tribunals, Sir Keith Lindblom in the Court of Appeal. Doug’s role included reading the appeal papers and drafting memorandums to assist the judges in their preparation of hearing the case.
