William advises and represents both Claimants and Defendants in Personal Injury, Clinical Negligence, Professional Negligence and related areas of law. He is instructed in cases relating to such matters as;

  • Public Liability, Employer’s Liability, road traffic accidents;
  • The negligence of clinicians including doctors, surgeons, dentists and optometrists;

  • Negligent design and construction, including claims for damages arising from negligently undertaken utilities works, apartment redevelopments and land drainage;

William deals with claims involving serious and complex injury including psychiatric injuries, chronic pain and fibromyalgia.

 

Notable Cases

  • Personal Injury

    Acted for Defendant at JSM where C had undergone a total gastrectomy after drinking liquid nitrogen at the Defendant’s bar while celebrating her 18th birthday. The case involved difficult issues over the future effects of a life-changing injury.

    Advised the infant Claimant in a pedestrian running down case involving a potential subtle brain injury, with complex issues of causation on which the medical experts were at odds.

    Advised a young Claimant who had suffered significant psychiatric injuries after being the victim of a knife-point robbery of her employer’s retail premises in relation to complex issues of liability, causation and quantum

  • Clinical Negligence

    Advised the Defendant dentist on liability and causation in an action arising from an allegation of a prolonged period of negligent dental treatment and failure to identify and treat periodontal disease said to have resulted in extensive restorative work and future tooth loss.

    Advised and represented the Defendant optometrist in a claim arising from allegedly negligent failure to test for, identify and treat glaucoma said to have led to loss of vision.

    Advised a leading credit card provider in relation to the quantum of several complex claims brought under the Consumer Credit Act and arising from the PIP breast implant scandal.

    Advised and represented the Claimant in a case of dental negligence involving the operative severing of facial nerves.

    Advised and represented Claimants in a range of cases relating to negligent hip replacement procedures, including ‘metal on metal’ implants.

  • Professional Indemnity

    Acted in shareholder claims against the former directors of a public limited company arising from misleading statements set out in the company’s IPO prospectus.

  • Credit Hire

    Acted for the Defendant in a claim involving credit hire wherein the credit hire claim was dismissed and a successful application for costs was made against the credit hire providers pursuant to CPR r.44.16(2).

  • Civil Fraud

    Obtained a finding of fundamental dishonesty with an award of indemnity costs in a claim under the Defective Premises Act in which it was found that the Claimant had deliberately damaged the relevant property for the purposes of bringing his claim.

    Obtained a finding of fraud in a claim in which the Claimant’s signature and that of her witnesses had been found to have been forged on a number of court documents. Subsequent applications in relation to costs led to the Claimant’s solicitors personally settling the Defendant’s costs.
